What to do when relocating
So, you have finally taken the leap and you’re now on your way to moving to your new home. Here are some important tips to help you through your relocation:
Start packing as early as possible
It’s best to get a head start on your packing once your moving dates have been finalized. Starting as soon as you can is great especially when you’re moving with children. With kids in the house, it will probably take twice as long to have things packed so it’s definitely better to prepare earlier than you usually would. If it would be possible to have some of the children’s things moved to the new location earlier than the big move then that would be a big plus to get the kids settled in faster.
Hire a good moving company
Figuring out a way to get all your stuff along with you in your big move is stressful, especially if you want to do it alone. Hiring a moving company to help you out will save you from all that stress. These moving companies have different offerings like inter-state moving, cross-country moving, and apartment moving. It never hurts to do your research and see their reviews online. You should also shop around and see which company will fit your needs and your budget.
Take care of utilities and subscriptions
Always remember to settle your utilities and cancel your subscriptions before moving. Notify your utility company of your move and set a transfer or installation schedule so you can have utilities set up in your new place before you move there.
Before you head out, come up with an inventory of all your items from the bulky furniture to your clothes and jewelry to make sure everything has been packed for the move. It is very common during relocations to lose valuable items in between moves. Thus, it would be wise to label your things and double-check every box so that you won’t accidentally leave something behind.
